Homeless people staying at North America’s largest Homeless Shelter are under scanner as Drug Addiction, possessing Weapons and Stealing becomes their way of life. In an undercover operation conducted by "The Revelation", a Calgary Police Officer issued a verbal warning to stay away from the Homeless Shelter in the night
A first visit to Calgary, a plush and largest city in the Canadian province of Alberta will amaze you till you give up on your own.

Calgary is home to beautiful skyscrapers, malls with vertical gardens - living wall that sustains plants from the hydroponic system, Calgary Zoo, an hour and a half distance to lake Louise and Banff Mountains and a lot more makes a perfect holiday destination in Canada.
But wait, “never judge a book by its cover”.
A shocking view of disoriented homeless people in intoxicated condition in large numbers scattered all over the place will scare you and if you are lucky, you will not be harmed or robbed.
Calgary Resident comes down hard on City Administration
Emily (name changed on request) says “I was born and raised in this beautiful city. Unfortunately, North America’s largest homeless shelter – Calgary Homeless Foundation is located here in Downtown Calgary.

I have seen these people consuming addictive substances and indulging in weird activities all my life. These people may be homeless and gain sympathy from our society however, we should not forget that they have a dark side too. They are being supplied some addictive substances – Drugs by someone that evidently keeps them in a very bad state of drooling, shivering as they are seen lying on the pavement in continuous intoxicated condition. Most of these people look horribly scary and malnourished. The administration needs to do a lot more to urgently address this ongoing issue.”
A bid to attack The Revelation Reporter with a Knife
Every time “The Revelation” tried to approach these homeless people with a soft corner to know their mindset and circumstances that led them to this appalling condition, we were either snapped back with abusive language or openly threatened to assault with a knife.
Yesterday afternoon, as part of the field reporting, one women gang member from the homeless group of people objected us for observing them from a close distance and threatened to stab with a knife within seconds. Another male gang member quickly followed us for almost one mile till the Calgary Light Rail Transit (LRT) ran between the tracks by dazzling him to eventually go astray.
Few Security Guards were seen in black uniform next to the Calgary City Hall LRT Station.
In another incident, a drooling man wearing dark glasses constantly kept an eye on people waiting at the Calgary City Hall LRT Station. He abruptly said “I have a train ticket, do you have cash ? His unsolicited attempt to perhaps commit crime was defeated as the train tickets are timed for an hour and a half.
Nuisance in Supermarket next to Calgary Homeless Foundation
A supermarket located just one block away from the Homeless Shelter has hired Security Guards to protect its employees, customers and property. These homeless people are constantly seen creating ruckus outside the elevators at the supermarket entrance.
While interacting with one of the Security Guards posted outside the elevators at the supermarket entrance, we observed the anxiety suffered by him due to the continuous footfall by such homeless people who were seen howling, hurling abuses and quarrelling among themselves for food, money and drugs.
Calgary Residents concerned about Safety of people and Drug Addiction
Western Standard in February this year reported about the Safety issues and drug addiction by these homeless people.
Janice (name changed on request) says “My folks are always worried for me till I am back home safely after work as my work place is in Downtown not far from this Homeless Shelter.”
A new-comer in Calgary chose to reside away from his Work Place in Downtown
A new-comer in Calgary waiting at the City Hall LRT Station hesitantly agreed to interact with "The Revelation" on a condition of anonymity. Michael (name changed on request) says “As a new-comer in this beautiful city, I have an option to stay near my work place in Downtown but my colleagues have advised me to stay away from Downtown due to the ongoing menace that the Calgary administration has miserably failed to control.”
Calgary Police confiscated $1000,000 worth Stolen Property and Weapons from Homeless People

Less than a month back, CBC News/Radio Canada reported about the raids conducted by Calgary Police outside the Homeless Shelter make-shift camps that led to seizing $100,000 of stolen property and weapons from the homeless people.
The Police also charged one homeless person and took the person into custody for allegedly possessing stolen property.
Calgary Police Superintendent Scott Boyd in a statement said “What we are really talking about here today is the criminality that some are choosing to start and try and thrive in.”
Last year, Calgary Police Service, the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) along with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the United States (US) Drug Enforcement Administration seized $55 million worth drugs in one of the largest catch in Alberta’s history. The team also confiscated 19 firearms including handguns, rifles and submachine guns. Almost one metric tonne of methamphetamine was averted to reach Alberta communities.
Sargent Tara MacNeil said “The drugs were believed to have originated in Mexico and were further linked to cartels.
The Calgary Homeless Foundation in its 2022 point-in-time count survey claimed to have reduced homelessness in Calgary from 2911 in 2018 to 2782 in 2022 however it remains to be seen the next move taken by the Canadian government and its enforcement authorities to stop this menace from spreading quickly into the Canadian society.
