Modi government under his leadership has positioned Aadhaar as a key enabler of the "Digital India" vision without imbibing values to the government department – Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to uphold integrity, honesty, transparency and good governance as mentioned in the Citizen Charter

The Prime Minister of India – Narendra Modi doesn’t stop blowing the trumpet on the achievements of UIDAI for viewing Aadhaar as a critical digital infrastructure for good governance, financial inclusion and transparent delivery of welfare services.

Misconduct by UIDAI Government Officials at Regional Office, New Delhi

It was around 1200 hours, The Revelation made a polite request to meet the Director UIDAI after listening to complaints from the visitors present outside the Office.

The security guards posted at the UIDAI Regional Office located in the heart of Delhi are given instructions by the UIDAI Office staff not to share any details of the officers present on duty, misbehave with the visitors and take pride by intimidating and stopping the Press from clicking photographs.

On lot of insistence, we were made to speak to an individual over the phone from the reception. The officer over the phone gave dodgy answers with complete disregard of the position held by him. After lot of insistence, the officer over the phone introduced himself as Section Officer, Public Grievances – Ravi Sharma.

The Revelation after a thorough search on the UIDAI website, could not corroborate the identity of any such individual with the designation and name shared with us over the phone.

The Revelation is appalled for going through such uncalled behaviour of the UIDAI Office staff including the security guards present at the entrance.

The Revelation openly accuse and condemn the UIDAI Regional Office Staff for committing alleged dereliction of duty, flouting its core values and infringing the fundamental right of the Press to perform its duties.

The UIDAI office has failed to facilitate journalists' access to information and meetings and ensuring professional standards.

The Press has the fundamental right to hold UIDAI to account pertaining to several grievances of Indian Citizens.

Employees working at the UIDAI Regional Office located barely 500 meters from the top Indian court in New Delhi were openly found flouting the UIDAI values.

UIDAI Values

  • We believe in facilitating good governance

·

  • We value integrity

  • We believe in transparent and open organization

Ashwini Vaishnaw is the Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology.

He also holds the portfolios for Railways and Information & Broadcasting.

Bhuvnesh Kumar - Indian Administration Service (IAS) is the Chief Executive Officer of UIDAI.

Jyotiraditya Scindia is the Union Minister for Communications, a ministry under which the UIDAI operates through the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

In the recent past, The Revelation released a news story on how Indian government systematically made a deliberate attempt to cover-up stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station.

Constitutional Protections and Checks for the Press in India

International watchdogs have hinted at the falling standards of free speech and a growing chilling effect. India’s rank of 151 out of 180 in the 2025 Press Freedom Index offers no cause for celebration. Compiled by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), the report places India firmly within the “very serious” category.

However, the Constitution that safeguards the fundamental right to speech and expression is in place and largely intact. At the centre of all this lies a pressing question : How has the Supreme Court responded to more covert forms of press control ?
