Amid one of the most deepest crisis faced by India’s judiciary and its independence, the Chief Minister (CM) of Haryana State – Manohar Lal Khattar first talks about getting an order by fixing the Judge’s mindset from the Constitutional Court and later most brazenly withdraws his statement
CM Khattar while addressing a public gathering over ‘2019 Haryana Police Constable Recruitment in Bhiwani, Haryana last Sunday said “That problem will be sorted. There is a Judge in the High Court, his mind does not work properly. We will fix that and make the Court pass an order soon.”
The pending Court case referred by CM Khattar pertains to serious allegations of irregularities in the recruitment drive of Police Constables in Haryana State.
Later, when CM Khattar’s video went viral that drew condemnation, the minister most brazenly withdrew his statement and conveniently took a u-turn to absolve himself from the controversy.
He said “If what I said might have reached a Judge, I withdraw my words. I immediately also said that there is no doubt that whatever will be the Court’s ruling, it will be a final verdict. I intended that thousands of people are affected due to the Court verdict delay. However, I regret for the comments made by me.
Department of Justice, Government of India says
Judiciary is an independent organ of the State under the Constitution of India. Government of India does not interfere in the functioning of the judiciary.
Government cannot ask a Court of Law to expedite proceedings of any particular case. Therefore, no action can be taken by the Government where the petitioner is aggrieved of the fact that there has been inordinate delay in disposal of the case.

General Secretary of the Congress Party (Opposition Party) Randeep Surjewala said “Chief Justice of India (CJI) and Chief Justice (CJ) of Punjab and Haryana High Court must take cognizance of the unfortunate statement and CM Khattar should be put to trial for committing contempt of Court.
CM Khattar shared Lessons learnt from PM Modi
CM Khattar and Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi of the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party worked closely when Modi was a leader in charge of Haryana in 1996. It was PM Modi who had chosen CM Khattar to lead Haryana State.
During a recent interview, CM Khattar shared lessons learnt from PM Modi. He claimed to have never supported favouritism or special treatment through political influence.
It remains to be seen, if the CJI and CJ will take suo-moto cognizance of the incident that has demeaned India’s democracy.
