Warning issued in the Public Interest

Modus Operandi adopted by Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry to Con Patients
A brilliantly designed, fancy website is used as a tool to first build the image of Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry to promote transparency by displaying the rates of the dental products and services in INR and USD and once the patients are trapped in the middle of the treatment, thereafter they are arbitrarily fleeced money on account of conducting unnecessary and fictitious dental procedures to increase revenue.
Conflict of Interest between Profit and Care is the blot on Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry
This Dentistry works on a thoughtful modus operandi to trick the vulnerable patients by literally putting a gun on their head and arbitrarily demanding money to pay up or else patients are left in pain and agony with incomplete dental treatment getting ceased.
The conduct shown by Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry is absolutely wicked and cruel.
A Case of 82 years Patient suffering from Stroke and Heart Disease exploited by Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry
Kalpana Anand, 82, (Name changed on request) visited Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry first on 13 May this year. Kalpana and her Guardian were only informed about the dental implant procedure to be conducted along with its make and price.
Besides, the implant make and cost, neither any details of other procedures nor its charges were informed to Kalpana and her Guardian.
Kalpana was charged Rs.50,000/- + Rs.2000/- on 13 May and Rs.9,000/- on 15 May (Total : Rs.61,000/-) towards the partial dental treatment.
Dental Treatment conducted by using Inferior and Sub Standard Quality Material and keeping Ambiguity on Charges
Temporaries costing Rs.10,000/- were placed on 15 May came out in less than 24 hours of its placement.
Destruction of Documentary Evidence and Evading Record Keeping
On 15 May, the original unsigned Provisional Treatment Plan cum Invoice raised by Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry dated 13 May was torn and retained by the Receptionist with an intent to destroy documentary evidence and evade record keeping.
Deceitfully Imposing Additional Cost in a Rush in Collusion with Staff Employees
Furthermore, on 15 May, the revised/modified back dated; 13 May, Provisional Treatment Plan cum Invoice incorporated with additional costs was handed over to Kalpana and her Guardian in a rush.
It is apparent that the staff working at Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry are working in collusion with each other to financially exploit the vulnerable patients.
Patient compelled to either Pay against Arbitrary Demands or Discontinue in the Middle of the Treatment
Given the conduct of Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry for arbitrarily levying dental treatment charges on different procedures and maintaining ambiguity, Kalpana and her Guardian were shocked and were left with no other option than to unwillingly discontinue her ongoing dental treatment.
Game Plan to Trick and Exploit the Patients through a Threat worded in Minuscule Font Size
Evidently, the revised/modified Provisional Treatment Plan cum Invoice raised by Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry is incorporated with a ‘threat’ in the smallest font size at the end.
The ‘threat’ says “It may be necessary to amend this treatment plan and therefore the costs may change. If this happens, we will advise you and ask you how you want to proceed. Treatment may be withheld if payment is not made as specified.”
Given the minuscule size of the said ‘threat’, it is highly likely for any patient or/and for that matter any individual to either skip/escape from reading and/or may not be able to read the said threatening language at all due to its smallest font size. This is deliberately done to trick and deceive the patients with ulterior motive and as a nefarious design by Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry.
However, Dr. Puneet Kathuria in its reply to ‘The Revelation’ said “In a medical treatment, despite best efforts, it is not possible to predict what additional treatment may be required, as we progress with the sittings and for that reason the footnote is provided in the treatment plan sheet.
Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry maintain ambiguity pertaining to conducting dental procedures and its costs with its patients in complete contradiction to its own policy stated at the end of the Invoice.
As per the prescription dated 13 May, issued by Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry, Dr. Sween Kathuria conducted Repeat Root Canal Treatment (Re RCT) procedure without asking and seeking the consent from Kalpana and her Guardian and went ahead by levying additional Rs.10,000/- charges for the said procedure in the Provisional Treatment Plan cum Invoice.
Kalpana and her Guardian were also not informed about Rs.10,000/- for Root Canal Treatment (RCT) and Rs.10,000/- for Re RCT charges with ulterior motive to fleece money prior to going ahead with the said treatment.
The prescription dated 13 May, says “Re RCT done”.
Furthermore, Dr. Puneet Kathuria admitted to the fact in his email dated 20 May, that Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry received payments only for the work done.
Interestingly, if RCT and Re RCT were done, what made Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry not demand the payment towards RCT and Re RCT. Dr. Puneet Kathuria’s statement is contradictory to the Invoice issued wherein, neither RCT nor Re RCT dental treatment are highlighted in fluorescent colour to mark the treatments done. Fluorescent colour was brushed by the receptionist only on the treatments that were done and correspondingly the payment was also demanded for such treatments.

Evidently, Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry lure patients only to hit them with massive, unexpected and unnecessary charges for dental treatment.
It is apparent that, Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry is being run fearlessly to exploit the vulnerable patients in breach of the law of the land.
Fillings placed by Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry without Disclosing the Material used and its Charges
Kalpana and her Guardian were also never informed about the material used and cost of Fillings – Rs.9,000/- prior to conducting the said procedure on 15 May.
Dr. Puneet Kathuria offered to refund Rs.9,000/- charged towards the Fillings in an attempt to hush up the matter.
Clarification furnished by Dr. Puneet Kathuria
“At the cost of repetition, we wish to clarify that the treatment was administered to the patient after providing her proper consultation and having her consent.
During the course of treatment the patient complained of pain in a particular area. The affected area had three cavities in three different teeth which were lined up together.
This required filling of all three cavities as the pain could have been reflexing from any of the cavities. This is the course of treatment any doctor, in wisdom, would have adopted.
This was done on her behest while she was still in the chair undergoing treatment, as she mentioned pain there.
Still further, her Guardian was also advised of this after the sitting got over and the payment was made happily for the cost of filling in addition to the rest of the treatment cost using Credit Card, since it was informed to the Patient’s Guardian earlier and mentioned on the treatment card. Its payment entries were updated in our records as well as yours.
Despite the above facts, with the sole objective of keeping a customer happy and as a goodwill gesture, we even offered to return the charges toward three fillings done by us.
However, it appears that our goodwill gesture is being considered as a weakness.
Please note that we have already replied to all your queries pertaining to the treatment. As regards our credentials and testimonials, we have guided you to approach the concerned authorities who shall be happy to provide your all the desired information.
To conclude, we reiterate that we are happy to refund the cost of three fillings, even though the same was paid by you without any demur.
Dr. Kathuria's Dentistry has worked on strong principles and ethics from past 25 years with 470+ Google Reviews, Countless Video Testimonials and patients spanning from over 40 countries reiterating that.
We did message you and even tried calling u. As mentioned, we wanted to do the three fillings where the patient was having pain.
They were mention in the card, but somehow got missed in the reception billing. As shared in pics with u on whatsapp.
Anyways, we are happy to help you for the same and the fillings charges will be adjusted in your treatment. Her acrylic bridge is ready to be fitted.
You are a valued client for us and will always remain.
Our Apologies for any misunderstandings."
Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry Threatened the Press to drop the News Story or else it will be dealt as per Law
In view of the above facts, we caution you that any act of publication that is done by you or any one acting on your behalf, based on distorted facts, leading to any damage to our reputation, shall be dealt with strongly, as per law.
Kalpana’s case is not an Isolated One
Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry has earned disrepute due to its malpractices over the years which is strictly against the Code of Ethics defined by the Dental Council of India (DCI).

Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry is playing their Cards on Global Dental Holiday to Solicit Patients, Globally
The idea of a Dental Holiday in India has become increasingly popular over the past decade. Foreigners imagine receiving World-class dental care at a fraction of prices prevailing in western countries, while enjoying a cultural getaway.
The truth is, India has indeed earned a strong reputation in the field of dentistry, especially for complex treatments like dental implants. However, with this rise in dental tourism also comes a growing number of unethical providers who lure patients with unrealistic promises and misleading advertisements.
Understanding how these scams operate, patients must choose a reputable clinic and ensure that their Dental Holiday in India is safe, successful and stress-free.
How Dental Holiday Scams Take Advantage of Foreigners
The unfortunate reality is that some clinics catering to overseas patients prioritise profit over patient safety. They advertise rock-bottom prices in contrast to foreign currency, rushed treatments or “instant solutions” that compromise long-term oral health.
A Dental Holiday in India often fall for scammers who often rely on the fact that international patients may not be able to verify credentials, understand local regulations or return easily if complications arise.
Common red flags includes vague treatment plans, no discussion of risks, pressure tactics and inconsistent communication.
Some clinics even showcase fabricated reviews on its website or stock images to appear more legitimate to deliberately mislead prospective patients.
What begins as an exciting Dental Holiday in India can quickly turn into an expensive and emotionally draining experience when patients discover poorly placed implants, low-quality materials or incomplete treatment, extortion of money by tricking patients.
Choosing a Safe and Rewarding Dental Experience
A successful Dental Holiday in India begins with research.
Patients should evaluate a clinic’s real patient testimonials along with fake and paid ones, before-and-after results, years of experience and the credentials of the dentist.
Reputable practitioners never rush consultations and provide clear expectations about timelines, outcomes and follow-up care.
News Reports on Dental Clinics in India Accused for Fleecing or Overcharging Patients through Unethical Practices and Medical Negligence
Inflated Implant Charges : In a notable case at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna, a senior dentist was booked by the CBI for allegedly forcing patients to pay exorbitant cash amounts for dental implants. The payments were rerouted through private firms to the doctor, with reports suggesting some patients were charged up to 500 percent more than the actual cost.
Lack of Pricing Transparency : Many clinics have been criticized for concealing prices and using variable pricing, where different patients are charged different amounts for the same treatment.
Prolonging Procedures : Some patients have alleged that clinics intentionally drag out simple procedures over several years to extract additional "service charges".
Unrealistic Marketing Claims : Regulatory bodies like the Andhra Pradesh State Dental Council (APSDC) have taken action against clinics for misleading advertisements, such as "miracle treatments" and boasting unverified hi-tech equipment.
Common Cases of Medical Negligence and Compensation
Patients have successfully sued clinics for botched procedures that resulted in further expensive treatments.
Damaging Healthy Teeth : A Bengaluru Clinic was ordered in early 2024 to pay Rs.2 Lakh in compensation after a procedure that damaged 10 of a patient's teeth.
Extraction Errors : In Chennai, a consumer court awarded Rs.2 Lakh after a dentist extracted a permanent tooth instead of a milk tooth during orthodontic treatment.
Faulty Dental Procedures : A district consumer commission in Hyderabad directed a dental clinic to refund Rs.50,000 and pay Rs.25,000 as compensation and another Rs.20,000 as punitive damages to an octogenarian, who sought further treatment after his toothache remained even after multiple dental procedures.

Role of Dental Council of India (DCI)
The Dental Council of India oversees the implementation of the Code of Ethics and ensures adherence to its guidelines.
This Code emphasises integrity, transparency and professionalism aiming to uphold the dignity of the Dental profession while ensuring welfare of patients.
As per the Revised Dentist Code of Ethics 2014, Dentists are barred and it is unlawful to conduct any unnecessary dental procedures or treatments, recommending or performing solely for financial gains.
Exploiting Patients by charging excessively for services and aggressive advertising is unethical.
The Patient-Doctor relationship is based on trust. Deceitful conduct shows disrespect to the Patient and threatens their relationship.
Doctors are no more considered akin to Gods for saving Lives anymore in India
There was a time when Doctors in India earned incredible reputation for being morally upright and were literally considered akin to Gods for saving the precious lives.
However, with the passage of time, most of the Doctors have allegedly ended up losing all the respect for unethically minting money from people through unfair business practices. Today, people look at the Medical Practitioners from suspicion and are scared to approach them without receiving credible recommendations.
Health Care Integrity Crisis in India
India’s healthcare integrity crisis is a systemic collapse driven by unchecked commercialisation, predatory billing and severe infrastructural disparities.
With nearly 55 Million Indians are pushed into poverty annually due to out-of-pocket medical expenses.
The sector struggles with a profound erosion of trust between the public and the medical establishments.
Findings by Oxfam
The Loot of Private Healthcare
Oxfam is a global confederation of 21 independent non-governmental organizations operating in over 70 countries to fight global poverty, inequality, and injustice.
The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data reveals that between 2001 and 2015, nearly 3.8 lakh people died by suicide due to lack of proper, affordable treatment facility.
“In almost all the interviews conducted with patients by Oxfam and their relatives for a research laid bare the brutal reality that exploitation and extortion of patients and carers by for- profit healthcare providers are frighteningly easy, due to the universal willingness of human beings to make infinite sacrifices to save the life of a loved one.”
Public health analyst Amit Sengupta says that “The State’s active role in facilitating the dominance of the private sector in healthcare is not just a techno-managerial choice, but the wilful and wanton abdication by the state of its primary duties, by transferring responsibility for universal health care to the for-profit private health sector."
A typical situation undergoing human apathy and exploitation is highlighted through the Conflict between the duty of equitable health provisioning and the corporate pursuit of profit.
Oxfam, in its briefing paper, documents how patients in India are imprisoned by private hospitals for not paying their bills.
The statutorily mandated right to emergency care is denied. Treatment is impossibly expensive.
Patients entitled to free care are instead pushed deep into poverty, being forced to pay high fees to access health services.
A new born baby was held for three months for the same reason, and her mother would come each day to the hospital to breast-feed her.
A schoolboy was held hostage for 11 months until his parents paid the bills.
Oxfam concludes that global and domestic taxpayers’ money is being ploughed into back expensive, for-profit private hospitals that block, bankrupt or even detain patients who cannot pay.
Microscope on the experience of one of the most privatised health care systems in the World – INDIA
Distinguished observers have rated this to be the most privatised healthcare systems in the world, surpassing even the United States of America.
Thirty-seven per cent of Indians experience catastrophic health expenditures in private hospitals.
The abdication of the State in provisioning healthcare is spectacular. The Economist in 2017 observed that India’s extreme reliance on private healthcare is not ideological as much as the outcome of the reality that “government has done such a lousy job” of providing healthcare.
Official data reveals that anything between 55 to 68 Million people are pushed into poverty because of private health care spending.
Private health care operates in an environment of low regulation and accounts for 80 percent of all health transactions in India.
78 Doctors as Whistle Blowers penned a Book : Dissenting Diagnoses - Voices of Conscience from the Medical Profession
Seventy-eight ethical doctors came together – many of them working in corporate hospitals choosing to be whistle-blowers – to reflect on the rot that has set into the vocation of health care. Their voices come together in a book titled Dissenting Diagnoses: Voices of Conscience from the Medical Profession.

In this exposé, the doctors Arun Gadre and Abhay Shukla speak out against the many malfunctioning elements of India’s healthcare system - including unnecessary investigations, expensive medications and botched operations.
It is well known, for instance, that some doctors prescribe drugs that are overly expensive, when equally effective, cheaper alternatives are available. In some of its most engaging moments, the book proposes solutions to resolve some of the problems that fuel the country’s medical crises.
A similar gloomy and sad state of affairs emerges from Healers or Predators ? Healthcare Corruption in India. In this book, policy makers, practitioners and public health scholars examine the deep-rooted crisis of the consistent denial of basic healthcare to the overwhelming majority of Indian citizens.
The insightful book on the malpractices in the noble profession is a collection of 41 investigative essays by doctors practising individually and with hospitals in India and abroad, public health academics, researchers, activists, civil society members and a journalist.
In India, medical negligence is a stark and widespread reality.
The Author has highlighted that unlike in the West, Doctors in India have historically operated beyond the law.
The private health care industry is transformed first into a selfish market-led commodity, and then into a corporate-led profiteering industry.
However, today such practices have become the norm.
“Doctors advertise aggressively to solicit vulnerable patients which is against the principles of healthcare industry, globally."
They employ touts to bring patients on the basis of commissions to be paid by them and perform unnecessary and expensive tests and accept and even demand cutbacks from the diagnostic laboratories, prescribe the most expensive of drugs and are rewarded for this by the pharmaceutical industry and even go out of the way to abet the patients efforts to defraud insurance companies.
What will Doctors stoop to next ?
The personal conduct and ethical practice of doctors have hit new lows, as they prioritise profits over the welfare of patients. The social logic of “patients first” has given way almost fully to “profits first”.
Even dead patients are sometimes retained on ventilators to further inflate hospital bills.
The Supreme Court of India bench presided by Hon’ble Justices D Y Chandrachud and M R Shah in 2021 expressed its annoyance over hospitals saying they have become a money minting business, thriving on human distress, and it is better for them to be closed.
The Court said "State governments can provide better hospitals, instead of allowing private hospitals operate from small residential buildings."
Hospitals have become money-minting machines that fleece patients.
Deceptive Reply given by Dr. Puneet Kathuria
Dr. Puneet Kathuria and Dr. Sween Kathuria were given an opportunity under ‘The Editors’ Code of Practice’ to come clean and prove their bona-fide.
Dr. Puneet Kathuria chose to be selective and deliberately did not respond in point wise format to the detailed explanation sought by 'The Revelation' through email.
Dr. Puneet Kathuria said “Your e-mail seeks our reply to the "alleged malpractices" without even specifying how a truthful and ethical treatment administered to a patient can be termed as a “malpractice.
We completely understand your concern and are here to support you. However, we respectfully request that the conversation remain calm and professional, as an aggressive tone makes it difficult to assist effectively. We are committed to helping you and resolving your concern in the best possible manner.
Every potential treatment was well informed and was worked ethically during both the visits. The clear footer note of the Invoice, just like any other working entity, simply reiterates timely payment of work done and it cannot be perceived as threat.
In a medical treatment, despite best efforts, it is not possible to predict what additional treatment may be required, as we progress with the sittings and for that reason the footnote is provided in the treatment plan sheet.
We received payments only for the work done. If you feel that three fillings costing Rs.9000 was an added burden on you, we have already mentioned to you that in spite of doing the procedure, we are happy to refund it.
As for the credentials, you can connect with appropriate authorities for any clarifications.
We remain committed to addressing your concerns fairly and promptly.”
Apparently, both the Dentists failed to furnish explanation on credibility of their affiliation with Femina Miss India, academic certificates with qualification evidence from Colleges – Universities including University located in the United States of America, arbitrarily levying exorbitant fee for conducting unnecessary dental treatment and maintaining ambiguity, reason for not complying with their own Clinic policy pertaining to informing about different treatment costs, reason for retaining and destroying the previous Invoice as an evidence, deliberately conducting rushed dental treatment with zero transparency, unsigned Invoice, registration number of U and K Oral Wellness LLP and basis and sources of multiple awards.
Hard Hitting Questions asked by 'The Revelation'
Despite seeking accountability from both the Husband and Wife Dentists in detail by putting across 16 hard hitting questions through two emails, Dr. Puneet Kathuria made a deliberate attempt to mislead, by putting up pretence and lied upfront to somehow escape from the alleged wrongdoings committed by Dr. Kathuria’s Dentistry.
This news story is published in the larger public interest after ‘The Revelation’ received a direct threat from Dr. Puneet Kathuria on 22 May.
Direct threat was made to drop and not publish the story or face strong legal consequences.
